Cover Reveal: Persephone, sweet paranormal fantasy by Phoenix Johnson

From the Bestselling Author who brought you the Award Winning Paranormal Romance Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Wolf Smitten book 2) comes a new Fantasy Paranormal Romance!

Author Phoenix Johnson is thrilled to introduce her next title, Persephone!
The beautiful cover, by the talented and lovely Fiona Jayde!

In this sweet fantasy, Persephone must overcome her abusive past and the alluring call of the Darkness to discover her destiny and the truth about her heritage.

To be released August 1, 2015, Persephone is the sweeter side of fantasy, much like the books Phoenix grew up reading. She thoroughly enjoyed writing this delightful tale, and sincerely hopes that those who purchase and read Persephone get as much satisfaction from it as she did.

Blurb:

Persephone takes her future and heart into her own hands when she meets a mysterious man on a sweet summer day. However, when tragedy strikes, Adrian begs her to follow one request: head to the sea. Determined to honor his request, she begins a journey where she discovers her true heritage and family. The problem is, a dangerous past is nipping at her heels every step of the way. Will she make it to the sea and find her destiny? Or will she lose everything she fought so hard to find?

About the Author

Phoenix Johnson has always been intrigued by the written word. Even when she was a young girl, she usually had her nose stuck in at least one book, and her need to read would drive her to peruse the back of the same cereal box each morning at breakfast.
Paranormal and fantasy captured her heart, with tales about dragons, magic, and fanciful creatures sweeping her away to a wonderful new world where she felt she truly belonged. While she dabbled in writing while in primary school, it wasn’t until high school that she decided she should try her hand at writing her own book, and even gave poetry a try.
She wandered away from writing for a few years, but was soon encouraged to return and, within months of picking up the proverbial pen, Phoenix’ first story, The Wolf In The Neighborhood, was accepted for publication by Naughty Nights Press. While working on the rest of the Wolf Smitten Trilogy, Phoenix decided to take on a university degree, and is now in the final stretch of her Bachelor of Art’s degree in Professional Writing and Publishing, with plans to continue on to her Master’s degree.
In early 2015, Phoenix was thrilled to discover she’d made two Top 5 lists with three entries in the 2015 Easychair Bookshop Awards. In June, it was announced she had placed first in Best Paranormal with Once Bitten, Twice Shy, the second installment in her Wolf Smitten Trilogy, while The Wolf In The Neighborhood and Wolf Smitten placed third in their respective categories of Best Paranormal and Best Series. With her inclusion in the Alphas on the Prowl Box Set in 2015, Phoenix hit the top 100 bestsellers lists across numerous distributors, number 1 bestseller on several Amazon lists, and this was quickly followed by the announcement of her achievement of number 1 bestseller for her publisher, Naughty Nights Press, for the full second quarter of 2015. The awards and achievements have only served to strengthen her ambitions, and she is now aiming at reaching the bestseller lists for USA Today and New York Times.
Phoenix has been working hard to make 2015 her year, and has been busy organizing paranormal anthology Twisted Tales with seven other authors. Its release at the end of June is greatly anticipated, and she is extremely excited to see where her writing career takes her next.

Protect yourself from anyone seeing who you may be friends with on Facebook (prying eyes like Amazon)!

It's been suggested, and voted plausible, that Amazon may be using a setting or application that uses the Facebook links provided on your Amazon Author page to scan your Facebook friends list and determine their decision on "you know this author personally" when allowing/disallowing reviews from your readers.

Does anyone really need to see your friends list anyway? No!
Of course, we can all sign the petition asking Amazon to change this policy (and it's doubtful they will), but, in the meantime, why not make it more difficult for them to use your friendships/followers against you, right?

How to lock down your friends list:
This must be done from a computer or the "desktop site" setting on your mobile device.
If you're unsure if your friends list is currently view able, check it out on step 2 first.

Step 1: First go to your timeline and click friends (see photo below) and enter in "to edit" section and "manage" your friends as per your conditions. (I set mine to friends for all the options here)

Step 2: Go to settings, click on "timeline and tagging", "view as", click on your "friends" tab, and see if it shows your friends/followers. If it's locked down it should say "no friends to show."

Step 3: Rejoice knowing you may have just saved yourself from getting one of those notices from Amazon refusing your review! Either way, your list of friends is now safe from prying eyes. This is good.

And still the hate continues

And still the hate continues

I'd like you to take a look at the woman in the picture below, if you would.
You won't know her but her name is India Clarke, and she became at least the 11th Trans woman to be murdered in the US in 2015.

INDIA CLARKE

The other woman also murdered were: Papi Edwards 20 years old, Lamia Beard (30), Ty Underwood(24), Yasmin Vash Payne (33), Taja deJesus (36), Penny Proud (21), Kristina Grant Infiniti (46), Mya Hall (27), London Kiki Chanel (21) and Mercedes Williamdson (17).

I don't care who you are, or what you think of transgendered women, but to be murdered just because of your gender in the year 2015 is sickening, and a total disgrace to the human race.
I know I keep going on about transsexuals, my daughter even asked me today if I was attracted to them because of the way I bang on about them, and their hopes for the future but if this sort of evil didn't keep happening I wouldn't need to but as it is, worldwide, one transgender person is murdered every three days.
The list does not include deaths by suicide, accident, and other causes.
So this month I am begging you all to take just a minute out of your hectic lives, and fall silent, for all victims of Transphobic hate.

Thank you.

Unusual Words That Describe The Familiar

Elizabeth Black writes in a wide variety of genres including erotica, erotic romance, and dark fiction. She lives on the Massachusetts coast with her husband, son, and three cats. Visit her web site, her Facebook page, and her Amazon Author Page.

-----

Everyone is familiar with schadenfreude. That's the German expression for taking joy in someone else's misery. There are plenty of words that describe something  you might have thought was impossible to describe in only one word. Here are a few examples you may want to use in your fiction.

Pluviophile – see above image. (n) a lover of rain. I am a pluviophile. I also love thunderstorms. There's something electrifying about pounding rain with lightning and thunder. It makes me feel all warm and primal inside.

Gufra – (n) the amount of water that can be held in the hands.

Baku-Shan – (n) a pretty girl viewed from behind.

Schlimazl – I've heard of this one. I believe it's Yiddish. It's up there with "schlemiel". (n) – a chronically unlucky person.

Duende – (n) the power a piece of art has to deeply move the person viewing it.

Kyoikumama – (n) a tiger mother. One of those Asian mothers who pushes her children towards achievement to the point its practically psychotic. I had no idea there was an actual term for this.

Torchlusspanik – (n) the fear that opportunities vanish as one ages.

Tingo – You may have neighbors who have done this to you. Think of how Homer treats Flanders in "The Simpsons". (n) The act of taking objects from the house of a friend by gradually borrowing all of them and never returning them.

There are many more examples you may find all over the web. I find language fascinating, especially when one word can so vividly describe a sensation, an action, or an object.

Books, Coffee, and Crafts News Emporium Favourite Book Covers Contest

So a lot of you would know by now that I recently compiled a paranormal anthology with 7 other authors. Twisted Tales has been getting some fantastic reviews, which drastically eases my extreme nerves about it. However you may not realise that Books, Coffee, and Crafts News Emporium  is running their Favourite Book Covers Contest right now, and Twisted Tales beat out almost 600 other entries to land in the final 7 covers! My first cover (which I cannot say thanks enough to our own Gina Kincade for helping tweak!) to be published has been so well received, and to make the final round, to beat hundreds of other covers, it is astonishing. I'm over the moon.
Enough gushing, however. At 11:30pm Tuesday night, the winning 3 will be announced. What I'm here asking is if you could please go to 2 links to vote. The first one is a simple matter of liking a comment on a Facebook post. How easy is that? Here's the post, all you have to do is scroll down the post to the photo comment with our cover, and like it. Simple!
The second way to vote (both are counted separately, so both do need to be done, please!) is to go to BCCNE's site here and vote for us, #7! At the time of posting, we are ranking top on the site, and tied for second on the Facebook post. The more votes we get, the better. So please, pretty pretty please, go vote and like, and help us WIN! Eternal gratitude to all who vote!
