 Blurb:

Lillian Zane chose to practice emergency medicine for the rush, the thrill, and because she'd really rather deal with traumas than actual people. When she walks into the chaotic aftermath of a bus accident one morning at her ER, she knows exactly how to handle it. What she can't handle is coming face-to-face with the father of one of the injured victims.

Ian Summerfield has spent years putting the tattered remnants of his once-high powered medical practice--along with his marriage and family--behind him. When he discovers the ER staff dealing with his hysterical ex-wife the day of the bus accident, he's shocked to find himself more than a little intrigued by the smart, somewhat brittle, much younger Doctor Zane.

What starts out smoking hot quickly turns into something serious, something that terrifies Lillian so much she keeps a crucial secret, which jeopardizes their budding relationship beyond repair -- almost.

Excerpt:

I hit the call button, unable to resist the temptation to actually hear his voice. Because that is exactly what Ian Summerfield had become to me—catnip, crack, a regular high-fructose corn syrupy treat I was helpless against. Not something I liked much. But the things the man could do to me, for me, were things I liked a whole lot.
In the weeks since our first, unlikely but lovely encounter, we’d been like a pair of rabbits, going at it on every available surface—horizontal or not. I’d been here before. Like I’ve said, I enjoy sex and finding a partner who matched me in this department was a dream come true. But I was hitting that familiar moment—the one where I usually put on the brakes. It was at this point where most of the guys I’d fuck around with this kind of intensity would go emo on me, which would force me to cut them, and myself, off from the playtime.
No connections. No emotions. I didn’t have a spare molecule of energy or desire for any of that.
“Dr. Zane,” Ian said, the intimacy of the fact that only I could hear him in the middle of this teeming emergency department ramping up my libido. “I need you.”
I shut my eyes and let his sexy brogue, and the memory of the way we’d spent that morning in his ginormous bathtub for some foreplay then standing up with him fucking me from behind in front of the floor-to-ceiling bathroom mirror, make me damp in the panties. “You know I’m not off shift yet, you sick fucker.” I could hear him breathing hard. “Are you applying the DIY work I prescribed?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“Okay then, get it done so you can do me right later. And warm up that bathtub again. I’ll be home—”
I froze when the word floated out of my mouth as if I had a right to say it. I slapped a hand over my lips. What in the hell was I thinking? His condo, as nice as it was, was not my home. I had one of those already. That’s it. I was losing it. I needed to get a grip.
I heard him groan and sigh. “Not as good as the real thing,” he said. “But—”
“I gotta go,” I said, my ears ringing and my throat tight. I was losing myself in this…this weird thing with a guy I’d barely known for six weeks. A guy who’d more or less ruined his reputation in this very hospital, who’d been married and had a damn kid. What the fuck was I thinking?
“Lil—”
“Sorry. I have an incoming trauma. I’ll…I’ll call you later.” I ended the call, then turned the phone off to be safe from the temptation it represented. I swiped at my eyes, surprised to find tears on my hands when I pulled them away.
Ah, Lil, it’s for the best. You caught yourself just in time. This way, he won’t really be hurt by your inability to feel anything for another human being.
I saw the glass doors open and watched the EMTs come in at a run, ushering the stretcher with its small, bloody passenger. I shoved Ian out of my head. I had a life to save.

About the Author:

Amazon best-selling author, mom of three, Realtor, beer blogger, brewery marketing expert, and soccer fan, Liz Crowe is a Kentucky native and graduate of the University of Louisville currently living in Ann Arbor. She has decades of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as a three-continent, ex-pat trailing spouse.

Her early forays into the publishing world led to a groundbreaking fiction subgenre, “Romance for Real Life,” which has gained thousands of fans and followers interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”).

With stories set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch, in successful real estate offices and at times in exotic locales like Istanbul, Turkey, her books are unique and told with a fresh voice. The Liz Crowe backlist has something for any reader seeking complex storylines with humor and complete casts of characters that will delight, frustrate and linger in the imagination long after the book is finished.
