 It's Not You
by

 Blurb:

Lillian Zane chose to practice emergency medicine for the rush, the thrill, and because she'd really rather deal with traumas than actual people. When she walks into the chaotic aftermath of a bus accident one morning at her ER, she knows exactly how to handle it. What she can't handle is coming face-to-face with the father of one of the injured victims.

Ian Summerfield has spent years putting the tattered remnants of his once-high powered medical practice--along with his marriage and family--behind him. When he discovers the ER staff dealing with his hysterical ex-wife the day of the bus accident, he's shocked to find himself more than a little intrigued by the smart, somewhat brittle, much younger Doctor Zane.

What starts out smoking hot quickly turns into something serious, something that terrifies Lillian so much she keeps a crucial secret, which jeopardizes their budding relationship beyond repair -- almost.

Excerpt:

I hit the call button, unable to resist the temptation to actually hear his voice. Because that is exactly what Ian Summerfield had become to me—catnip, crack, a regular high-fructose corn syrupy treat I was helpless against. Not something I liked much. But the things the man could do to me, for me, were things I liked a whole lot.
In the weeks since our first, unlikely but lovely encounter, we’d been like a pair of rabbits, going at it on every available surface—horizontal or not. I’d been here before. Like I’ve said, I enjoy sex and finding a partner who matched me in this department was a dream come true. But I was hitting that familiar moment—the one where I usually put on the brakes. It was at this point where most of the guys I’d fuck around with this kind of intensity would go emo on me, which would force me to cut them, and myself, off from the playtime.
No connections. No emotions. I didn’t have a spare molecule of energy or desire for any of that.
“Dr. Zane,” Ian said, the intimacy of the fact that only I could hear him in the middle of this teeming emergency department ramping up my libido. “I need you.”
I shut my eyes and let his sexy brogue, and the memory of the way we’d spent that morning in his ginormous bathtub for some foreplay then standing up with him fucking me from behind in front of the floor-to-ceiling bathroom mirror, make me damp in the panties. “You know I’m not off shift yet, you sick fucker.” I could hear him breathing hard. “Are you applying the DIY work I prescribed?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“Okay then, get it done so you can do me right later. And warm up that bathtub again. I’ll be home—”
I froze when the word floated out of my mouth as if I had a right to say it. I slapped a hand over my lips. What in the hell was I thinking? His condo, as nice as it was, was not my home. I had one of those already. That’s it. I was losing it. I needed to get a grip.
I heard him groan and sigh. “Not as good as the real thing,” he said. “But—”
“I gotta go,” I said, my ears ringing and my throat tight. I was losing myself in this…this weird thing with a guy I’d barely known for six weeks. A guy who’d more or less ruined his reputation in this very hospital, who’d been married and had a damn kid. What the fuck was I thinking?
“Lil—”
“Sorry. I have an incoming trauma. I’ll…I’ll call you later.” I ended the call, then turned the phone off to be safe from the temptation it represented. I swiped at my eyes, surprised to find tears on my hands when I pulled them away.
Ah, Lil, it’s for the best. You caught yourself just in time. This way, he won’t really be hurt by your inability to feel anything for another human being.
I saw the glass doors open and watched the EMTs come in at a run, ushering the stretcher with its small, bloody passenger. I shoved Ian out of my head. I had a life to save.

She has decades of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as a three-continent, ex-pat trailing spouse.

Her early forays into the publishing world led to a groundbreaking fiction subgenre, “Romance for Real Life,” which has gained thousands of fans and followers interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”).

With stories set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch, in successful real estate offices and at times in exotic locales like Istanbul, Turkey, her books are unique and told with a fresh voice. The Liz Crowe backlist has something for any reader seeking complex storylines with humor and complete casts of characters that will delight, frustrate and linger in the imagination long after the book is finished.

 Accidentally Forever

Blurb:

Caitlin never thought running away from her past would bring her tumbling head over heels into her future.

A rare survivor of a werewolf attack, she spends an unforgettable week with the town's Doctor and his nurse while she heals from her wounds.

Doc Nick is the local pack's Alpha. Axel is Nick's beta, his protege, his housemate, and his best friend. Their lives have intertwined in what seems like destiny's future for the last ten years.  When the two fall hard for the new little hellcat in town, will letting her go be the one thing they can't live with?

The blood test results are in and a surprise is in store for Caitlin that may just throw her plans right out the window. Can she overcome the changes to her planned future, or will her world be rocked on its axis in a way she could never dream of?

Excerpt:

Despite her burning thirst, Caitlin struggled her way to a seated position. Fighting the light-headedness and nausea, she attempted to swing her legs to the side of the bed. A sharp pain in her thigh tore a strangled cry from her throat and the black lump suddenly moved. She truly didn't want to stick around and find out if the blob were her assailant or her savior, and gulping back the sob, determined to escape, she grasped the tube running to the IV in her hand and gave a hard yank, pulling the needle all the way out in a smooth glide as blood welled at the site.
She slid to the side of the bed and placed her feet flat on the floor, standing and testing her weight on the injured leg. Thinking she'd manage, she glanced toward the still sleeping form and panting hard against the burn through her leg she turned toward the door. One. Two. Three steps forward and then strong arms gripped her from behind and yanked her back just as all strength faded and her knees buckled.
"Hey, little lady, just where do you think you're going?" a gravelly voice teased her ear.
"Let me go!" she struggled, kicking her good leg backward and connecting with the solid leg of her captor, smiling inwardly as an 'omph,' escaped from his lips with a brush of warm breath.
"Calm down! You're safe," the man nearly growled, his arm pulling her tighter to the heat of his chest. A heat she remembered from the forest.
Safe. She was safe. All the fight left her suddenly and she drooped in his arms, her energy depleted.
"There now, that's better."
She felt his arm snake behind her legs and then she was lifted against that strong, masculine warmth once again and a feeling of relaxation overwhelmed her as she drew in his scent. Musky and spicy, with a hint of wet dog. Normally the wet dog smell would have her retching, but on him it seemed right, calming. Giving in to the calmness she felt washing over her, she relaxed as he tucked her back into the bed, tsking at the fact that her needle now dripped fluid onto the floor.
"Thirsty," she gasped, trying once again to lick her dry lips.
"If you promise to be a good girl and stay there, I'll get you some water." He flashed a stern look in her direction.
She nodded, feeling oddly contrite at the thought that she had upset this man. She watched him closely as he crossed the room, his movements lithe and smooth, the flex of his back muscles as he lifted the water flask and poured clear liquid into a blue plastic cup. She admired his broad shoulders as his midnight-black hair brushed the tips of his shoulder blades. Following downward, she visually caressed his tapered waist and the jean-clad tight ass that lead his long legs down into black-skinned cowboy boots. Cowboy boots? In the snow? In a hospital? Weird. She dropped her gaze as he turned around, looking at him shyly from beneath her lashes.
"Here you go, sweetness," the burly man drawled out, his voice low, almost sensual.
"Thank you." She accepted the water gratefully, placing the straw in her mouth. She drew a long sip of the icy cool wetness, luxuriating in the feel of it sliding down her parched, raw throat.
"Not too much, now," he chastised, leaning over to slip the cup from her grasp. "You'll make yourself sick, and until Nick comes in to check your wounds, I'm on duty. Nothing is gonna happen to you on my watch." The firm set of his jaw made her smile at its sternness.
"Nick?"
"My partner here at the clinic."
"So it is a medical facility, then." She visibly relaxed, leaning her head back into the pillows, feeling more at ease and suddenly overcome by fatigue.
"Erm...in a manner of sorts, yes."
Too tired to question the odd response, she let her eyes drift shut, her lashes brushing her cheeks as she yawned. "Sleepy," she mumbled.
Brushing her curly dark locks away from her dirt-smudged forehead, he crooned, "No doubt. You've had quite a day, I'm sure. You rest, I'll be here."
Caitlin dozed to the feel of his hand caressing her hair, her cheek, the side of her neck, his fingers whispering over the shell of her ear.

"Sleep well, little one." She heard him breathe huskily over his prisoner as the darkness claimed her.

Keys to her Heart
by
Lori King

A modern take on the Prince and the Pauper. Placing bets on who has a more difficult life, her heart is the prize. The twist? A billionaire and blue collar man each finding the other more similar than they imagined.

“Thanks for the beer. It was better than anything I had while I was on the road.” She took a couple of steps away from them. “I’ll see you guys around, okay?”
“You’re not running away that easy, cupcake,” Walker said, his gravelly voice making her knees weak. “Give me your keys, so I can look at your car. You said it’s in front of the bait shop?”
“You don’t have to do that Walker, really, I’m sure it’s just… ”
“Keys,” he demanded. Becca found herself unable to argue, she dropped her keys into his open hand. He gave her an approving smile which rattled her nerves and made her nipples hard.
Beside them, Evan coughed, “You know, you could stay at my place if you want, rather than the hotel. The only decent place is the Candlewood, and it’s probably full because of the graduations over the weekend. I’ve got more room than I know what to do with, and you’re welcome to it.”
Becca instantly shook her head, “That’s very kind, but I don’t want to intrude on your space. A hotel room will work until…” Her words drifted off and a wave of sadness hit her. She had no idea how long she’d be back in Calvert. Hell, she might be back permanently. It all depended on her finding work, and she wasn’t even sure if she wanted to go back to Atlanta. She was just too emotional to decide right now.
Walker stepped into her personal space and used his finger to lift her chin, so he could look into her eyes. “You’re not just home for a visit, are you, cupcake?”
She chewed on her bottom lip, worrying it as she tried to figure out what to tell them that wouldn’t start her tears again. “I’m not really sure, right now.”
“Why’d you leave Atlanta?” he pressed, his fingers skimming over the line of her jaw bone, then tucking a loose lock of her hair behind her ear.
“Why’d you stay in Calvert?” she snapped back. “It’s none of your damn business.”
The tension between them built until Evan spoke, “Ease up Walker, if Becca doesn’t want to spill her guts, it’s cool. We’ll just hold out until you’re ready to talk to us, Bec, no pressure. Can’t expect it to be like back in the day when we were all high school buddies.”
“We were?” she asked, shifting to look at Evan. “I’m not sure we have the same memories of high school.”
The guys exchanged a frown, and Evan’s mouth opened and closed as if he was going to counter her statement, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to rehash the good old days with them. She was running on exhaustion and adrenaline, and with a beer in her belly, she was likely to tell them something she’d regret. Like the fact that she’d planned out weddings to each of them in her diary, down to the color of her toenail polish. God, she’d been a sad, sappy teenager. She’d never even had the guts to flirt with either of them, and now they stood before her, acting as if they’d been the three musketeers.
“I need to go,” She whispered, unable to force her voice to be any louder with both men standing before her, scrutinizing her.
“Becca, I don’t know what’s happening in your life, but let us help if we can. That’s what friends are for, right?” Evan took her hand in his and rubbed his thumb over her knuckles, “Walker will take care of getting your car to his shop, and I’ll help you get settled in the guest suite at my place. You can get a good night’s sleep, and tomorrow, you can make decisions on what to do next.”
He took her breath away. His smile, his charm, his good looks, and now, his genuine kindness. He was just too much. Returning his smile, she sighed resignedly, “Okay, but only for tonight, and only because I’m too tired to argue anymore.”
They both looked pleased with her decision, which gave her a little thrill. Good lord, she was going to wear out her vibrator after this encounter.
“I need to get my bag from the car, and then I’m at your mercy,” she said, hefting her purse onto her shoulder.
Her choice of words had both men smiling even wider and for just a second, she imagined what it would be like to have either one smiling at her like that every day. Any woman would be proud to call one of them hers. Too bad neither was meant for Rebecca Daily.

Jak the Giant Healer
by
Rebekah R. Ganiere

Instead of Jack climbing a beanstalk and killing the giant, Jakleen is taken up the beanstalk by the giants in need of a healer for their king.

Jak stopped in front of the Ugly Ogre tavern and pushed open the creaky, weathered door. The pudgy owner, who resembled the name of his bar a little too much, rubbed down the bar with a moth-ridden cloth. He stopped when he spotted her but she paid him no mind. She glanced around the tavern and heard a bark of laughter flow from the back room. Jak squared her shoulders and headed for it.
"Miss," the owner called. "Miss you can't go in there."
Another feeble attempt by a man to keep her in what he considered her place. But she knew the men of this town all too well. Not a one had the guts to stand up to her.
Jak pushed through the curtain separating the rooms and the three men at the table looked up from their cards. The two town rowdies eyes widened at the site of her, but Rupert's smiled from beneath his thick dark mustache.
"Hello darling," he said.
"Don't you dare call me that." She stormed to him.
"Why shouldn’t I? We are engaged now after all." He chuckled.
The two rowdies laid their cards on the table and slowly exited the room, keeping a wide birth as they rounded her. For once she was glad that everyone in the village was scared of her.
"How could you?" she asked.
Rupert plopped his heavy booted foot in the table.
"How could I what darling?"
The word grated on her ears like sandpaper. She clenched her fists tight trying to keep control of her anger.
"I already told you I wouldn't marry you last week and the month before and the month before that. How could you take that bet from my father for my hand in marriage?"
"Take it from him? Darling I'm the one who suggested it."
Anger pulsed through her so hard she could barely see his smug expression any longer.
"Jakleen. Why are you fighting this? Your father has given you to me to be my wife. I will buy you the biggest house in town. Furnish it with beautiful things and lavish you with anything you want. In return you will adorn and love me and give me children aplenty. Why is this a bad thing?"
"I will never love you and if it's adoration you want, let me show you the adoration I have in store for you."
With a flick her wrist the floorboards creaked and groaned underneath his chair. Tree roots burst through the floor knocking him over. She pushed the roots at him as he screamed and she squeezed them tight around his body. Not enough to hurt him but enough for him to know he would never control her. She would never be his.
Wide-eyed Rupert yelled for help. He struggled against the thick roots but they didn't budge. Jak sauntered over and stood next to him. The feel of the roots as much a part of her as if she held him in the palm of her hand.
"I will never marry you Rupert. I will never love you. I will never adore you. If you try to force me into this marriage I can assure you, you are going to spend a lot of time pinned to the floor. And not in a way you will enjoy."
She pulled her shawl tight around her shoulders and stormed out of the room to the sounds of Rupert's continued screams. She pushed the curtain aside and stepped into the tavern. The two rowdies as well as the tavern owner stared at her. Jak looked at each of them in turn and headed to the exit.
