Unedited Excerpt from Accidentally Forever

Despite her burning thirst, Caitlin struggled her way to a seated position. Fighting the light-headedness and nausea, she attempted to swing her legs to the side of the bed. A sharp pain in her thigh tore a strangled cry from her throat and the black lump suddenly moved. She truly didn't want to stick around and find out if the blob were her assailant or her savior, and gulping back the sob, determined to escape, she grasped the tube running to the IV in her hand and gave a hard yank, pulling the needle all the way out in a smooth glide as blood welled at the site. She slid to the side of the bed and placed her feet flat on the floor, standing and testing her weight on the injured leg. Thinking she'd manage, she glanced toward the still sleeping form and panting hard against the burn through her leg she turned toward the door. One. Two. Three steps forward and then strong arms gripped her from behind and yanked her back just as all strength faded and her knees buckled.
"Hey, little lady, just where do you think you're going?" a gravelly voice teased her ear.
"Let me go!" she struggled, kicking her good leg backward and connecting with the solid leg of her captor, smiling inwardly as an 'omph,' escaped from his lips with a brush of warm breath.
"Calm down! You're safe," the man nearly growled, his arm pulling her tighter to the heat of his chest. A heat she remembered from the forest.
Safe. She was safe. All the fight left her suddenly and she drooped in his arms, her energy depleted.
"There now, that's better."
She felt his arm snake behind her legs and then she was lifted against that strong, masculine warmth once again and a feeling of relaxation overwhelmed her as she drew in his scent. Musky and spicy, with a hint of wet dog. Normally the wet dog smell would have her retching, but on him it seemed right, calming. Giving in to the calmness she felt washing over her, she relaxed as he tucked her back into the bed, tsking at the fact that her needle now dripped fluid onto the floor.
"Thirsty," she gasped, trying once again to lick her dry lips.
"If you promise to be a good girl and stay there, I'll get you some water." He flashed a stern look in her direction.
She nodded, feeling oddly contrite at the thought that she had upset this man. She watched him closely as he crossed the room, his movements lithe and smooth, the flex of his back muscles as he lifted the water flask and poured clear liquid into a blue plastic cup. She admired his broad shoulders as his midnight-black hair brushed the tips of his shoulder blades. Following downward, she visually caressed his tapered waist and the jean-clad tight ass that lead his long legs down into black-skinned cowboy boots. Cowboy boots? In the snow? In a hospital? Weird. She dropped her gaze as he turned around, looking at him shyly from beneath her lashes.
"Here you go, sweetness," the burly man drawled out, his voice low, almost sensual.
"Thank you." She accepted the water gratefully, placing the straw in her mouth. She drew a long sip of the icy cool wetness, luxuriating in the feel of it sliding down her parched, raw throat.
"Not too much, now," he chastised, leaning over to slip the cup from her grasp. "You'll make yourself sick, and until Nick comes in to check your wounds, I'm on duty. Nothing is gonna happen to you on my watch." The firm set of his jaw made her smile at its sternness.
"Nick?"
"My partner here at the clinic."
"So it is a medical facility, then." She visibly relaxed, leaning her head back into the pillows, feeling more at ease and suddenly overcome by fatigue.
"Erm...in a manner of sorts, yes."
Too tired to question the odd response, she let her eyes drift shut, her lashes brushing her cheeks as she yawned. "Sleepy," she mumbled.
Brushing her curly dark locks away from her dirt-smudged forehead, he crooned, "No doubt. You've had quite a day, I'm sure. You rest, I'll be here."
Caitlin drifted off to the feel of his hand caressing her hair, her cheek, the side of her neck, his fingers whispering over the shell of her ear.
"Sleep well, little one." Axel breathed huskily over his breathtaking prisoner.

Excerpt:
Carrick stood with his back to his second in command, his wolf pacing beneath his skin. He wanted to break the double doors open and bound into the woods rather than face the torment waiting for him in the grounds outside. Women. Hundreds of single wolfy females. All vying for the privilege of putting his cock and balls into their handbags like some godforsaken trophy.
Fuck.
Ever year he’d dodged the bullet, but this year one of the hungry piranha circling his house would become his mate.
Double fuck. He’d been through this before. He already had one. He just needed to find her, but the elders wouldn’t listen.
“You have to make a choice, Alpha.” Reid crossed the room and stood in front of him, blocking his view.
Carrick growled and spun away. “I’ll find her.”
Reid’s lips flattened, his dark eyes flashing in his anger. “You know the rules. Thirty-six is the last year an Alpha can rule without a mate by his side. The pack needs an Alpha female to be whole.”
“The pack is stronger than it’s been, or are you forgetting how I got here?”
Reid swallowed and backed up a step. “No. Justin was a horrible Alpha. You were right to destroy him. He was wrong for the Westmore Pack. Evil.”
And the bastard had been. He’d abused his power as Alpha to enslave his pack rather than uplift it. The amount of victims he’d unearthed in the days that followed would disturb him for the rest of his days. He could still see the faces of the women Justin had taken against their will and the shivering form of his sister and the strange girl who stood up to a monster.
Hers was the face that haunted his dreams. Her need reached out to him and made him into who he needed to be to overcome a near impossible situation. He had been up against a being far superior in strength but what he lacked in brawn, he’d more than made up for in sheer bullheadedness. And the electricity he felt when he touched her. His wolf recognized his mate and so did he. Now all that remained was to find her. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been looking. No one knew her name and, with her face partially shifted, her image was only a fleeting ghost in his mind.
“You’re damned right.” Carrick leaned back against his desk and rubbed the bridge of his nose. His father would be proud of the work he’d done. He’d turned the Westmore Estate from a near financial ruin to a lucrative operation centered on the newly formed security company owned by him and his second, Reid. Where people had once feared shifters for their propensity for violence because of Justin and his henchmen, he’d turned the tide and people paid for their protection. Handsomely. So much so that when the media had heard about the weekend’s festivities, he’d been dubbed the Ultimate Bachelor.
It made him fucking nauseous.
The one person he needed to find and he couldn’t and it made him crazy. Now, in a matter of a few days, he would either have to relinquish his role as Alpha or marry a gold digging piece of arm candy. The closest person he’d found was a barista at the coffee place he frequented but she didn’t look anything like the girl in his dreams. And now whenever she saw him coming, she hightailed it for the hills.
But she had popped a whisker.
Just like his goddess.
Jesus. He was losing his shit. Completely.

Jeanne St. James ~~~ Made Maleen

Two former high school sweethearts, Cow-boy and Princess, turn the heat back on.

With the two drinks in hand, he went back to stand in front of her. She plucked her glass out of his fingers and swallowed a healthy mouthful.
Needing to touch her, hold her, he settled next to her on the old couch with the ugly 1970s pattern. His apartment and furniture were an embarrassment. But he’d decided to bring her here anyway to be completely honest with her about his situation. Which was that he was barely squeaking by. From what he knew, she had become a successful stock broker in New York City. He couldn’t compete with rich, successful men who wore expensive business suits, drank Johnny Walker Blue, drove fancy sports cars, and owned vacation houses at the shore.
He only had himself to offer.
Laying a hand on her knee, he squeezed. He wanted to do nothing more right now than pick her up, throw her on his bed, and make her climax over and over until the break of dawn. To give himself to her completely.
After emptying the contents of his glass, he reached for hers, setting it on the floor. He slid his hand along her jawline and into her hair, encouraging her closer. She didn’t fight him and her mouth parted slightly, the scent of cola and whiskey on her breath.
Licking along her bottom lip, he tasted the sweetness, before sucking it in between his teeth, nibbling gently, and with a final soft nip, he sealed their mouths together, deepening the kiss.
Last night he simply wanted to hold her, but she had wanted more. Tonight, he was the one asking for more. He wanted everything.
“I need to be inside you, Princess,” he murmured against her succulent lips. “I need to be a part of you.”
She moaned, the sound making his cock swell. “Yes,” she whispered. “Yes. I want you too.”
His erection impatiently pressed against his jeans, ready to dive deep into her wet heat once again. But this was more than sex. More than a fuck. He wanted to make love to her, feel the connection they had last night. Hell, fourteen years ago.
“Cow-Boy…”
“Yeah?”
“Take me to bed,” came her husky answer.
She didn’t have to ask twice. He stood, pulled her into his arms, and then threw her over his shoulder. She squealed and laughed as he hauled her across the room and tossed her onto the bed. She landed dead center, bouncing a couple times before stretching sexily before him.
“This is a lot softer than a pile of hay or the floor.”
“Only the best for you, Princess,” he teased.
She released a throaty laugh, one that turned him on from his head to his toes. He ripped off his clothes and within seconds, stood at the end of the bed, naked as the day he was born.
“Where’s your hat, Cow-Boy?”
He lifted a wait-a-minute finger and he grabbed an old, worn cowboy hat out of the only closet in the place. The same one he wore back in the day. He smacked it against his bare thigh and then placed it on his head, tipping it down as he stalked back over to the bed.
“That’s my Cow-Boy,” she whispered. She sat up and pulled the tight V-neck sweater she wore over her head. She whipped it at him and it landed softly at his feet.
With a sensual smile, he leaned over the foot of the bed to tug her old cowboy boots off and then watched as she lifted her hips and shoved her jeans down her thighs. He grabbed the bottoms of her pant legs, helping to get rid of the offending denim. And then she laid there in matching blood-red lacy panties and bra. The color went perfectly with the dark brown of her hair and her lightly tanned skin. He could stare at her forever. But his cock disagreed.
He fisted himself, his gaze sweeping down her body. From her long hair spread out like a cloud around her head to the delicate length of her neck, the curve of her shoulder, the swell of her breasts peeking out from her bra, the soft roundness of her belly, to her narrow waist widening into those luscious hips. Her legs were long and lean, like a runner’s.
“You just gonna look and not touch, Cow-Boy?”
“No, ma’am,” he groaned, his accent strong. He climbed onto the end of the bed and onto his knees to move up her body until he straddled her thighs.
“Save a horse. Ride a cowboy,” she said with a big smile.
Bray thickened the twang in his accent. He put a finger to the brim of his hat and tipped his head. “Happy to oblige, Princess.”

All work and no mate makes Paige a dull girl.

A welcome reprieve from her work as co-owner of the Shifting Hearts Dating Agency, play is exactly what she’s looking for. Tyler
Ten years earlier
“Johnson is down. Request immediate assistance.” Tyler scanned the desolate landscape, grimacing as the coppery scent of blood reached his nostrils.
Hot and sweaty, he ducked down against Afghanistan’s crumbling mountain terrain, the scrubby plants doing little to offer camouflage against the enemy. Marc, his best friend and brother in law, hunkered behind a boulder, his eyes focused on the small military outpost on the hillside below, his rifle perched carefully on the rock formation.
He apparently hadn’t moved while Tyler had been gone. His stack of targets was right where he left it. Not that the other man needed visual reminders. He had photographic memory and more kills than anyone in the unit.
They had been following orders to blow the insurgent bastards to kingdom come and find out whatever information they could about their next move. Marc was a sniper where Tyler’s specialty was covert operations. The others in the highly specialized shifter unit were skilled in bomb diffusion and other tactical duties, often leaving Marc and Tyler paired together.
Trenton and Greg were a few clicks away on the other side of the ridge and Dimitris flew in hawk form, filming what he could for their superiors. Only one more day and they were shipping out and Tyler couldn’t be more relieved.
Between the spiders and the uneven terrain, he was ready for this mission to be over. Or at least he had been until he’d read the last letter from Jenny. They’d been together three years but for the last few months their relationship had been strained. Now he knew why.
I’m sorry, Tyler. I’ve met someone else. I wanted to write you before but it just never seemed like the right time.
Right.
I put your things in storage.
Even better. So now he’d have to find a place when he got back, too. The shit was just getting better and better. He trudged forward, a low growl edging up his throat.
Tyler had met Marc in boot camp and when the other man didn’t have a destination on one of his leaves, he brought him home to meet the family. He promptly fell for Tyler’s sister, Sheree, and the rest was history. The happy couple were expecting their first baby and the whole family couldn’t be more excited.
But for now they were here, stuck in the fifth circle of what had to be Hell and he was jealous as fuck that Marc’s tour was coming up soon. His wasn’t too much longer, but then again, his brother-in-law landed into combat first, with him following a month later when things began to heat up. Cat shifters could get into places a normal soldier couldn’t and they took a beating better, too. All they had to do was never get caught and never give the enemy the gift of their bite.
He didn’t plan on kissing any of them either.
“Hey man. Any action?”
“Not much,” Marc replied, swiveling his head in Tyler’s direction. His eyes appeared tired from the strain of the fourteen hour shift. “One truck. That’s it.”
“Damn.” Tyler shook his head. “I forgot to ask earlier. You hear anything from Sheree?”
His sister sent him letters and so did his mother but no one got letters like Marc did.
“Yup.” The exhaustion in his eyes evaporated in an instant. “The baby’s doing great.” He slid a letter out from his pocket and handed something over to Tyler.
“What? I don’t get to read your letter?” Tyler waggled his eyebrow, further smart ass remarks brewing on his lips when he glanced down at the picture in his hand.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
The tiny form of a premature baby in utero met his eyes and all words evaporated. The only thing he felt was wonder and a whole lot of awe. He could even see the details of the infant’s face.
“It’s the baby. She’s growing so big.”
Marc’s comments brought him out of himself and Tyler blinked. His sister and his best buddy had made this little person. And he was going to be an uncle.
An uncle…
Wow.
“Wait. It’s going to be a girl?”
“Yup.”
“Oh my God, man. You have to be so proud.” Tyler stared at the small form, noting the outline of the tiny hands, arms, and legs. It was a miracle.
“She’s due in a few weeks. Perfect timing for when I get out of this shit box.”
Tyler handed him back the picture, but the image of his niece was burned into his brain. She was perfect. Every part of her.
“Have you guys picked a name yet?”
Marc grimaced. “I think Sheree wants to name her Pepper. Been watching too many Ironman movies again.”
Tyler snorted. “She always did have a thing for that Robert Downey Junior guy.”
“I’ll say.” Marc cocked his head, his attention jolting back to his post, his expression slipping from happy father-to-be into a stone cold killer.
“What is it?”
“Thought I heard something.” Marc aimed the rifle, scanning the base below. “Nothing.”
A scent of something drifted past his nose but before he could react, the scrabble of feet on stone brought Tyler on red alert. He snarled, spinning on his heel, the cat inside of him trying to find a bead on where the intruder was coming in from.
He scented the air but he couldn’t discern anything identifiable. Aggravated, Tyler pressed the comlink in his ear. Someone was out there and it seemed as if they were masking their scent.
“Trenton. Dimitris. Greg. Positions.”
“Status quo.” Two responded simultaneously. Dimitris was still airborne and couldn’t speak.
“We have company here.”
At that moment, a grenade launched over the rock formation, hitting the ground with an audible clink.
“Fuck.” Marc tossed the rifle to the dirt, scooped up the offending object and hurled it back into open air.
Tyler hoped Dimitris had gotten the fuck out of the way. Then again, the hawk was a wily one.
“Come on.” Tyler’s cat growled low in his throat, the hair on the back of his neck rising to attention. His intuition was never wrong, and right now it was going off like a tornado drill. Something wasn’t right and without even realizing it, they had lost their upper hand.

This wolf is determined to take his mate, no matter what form she takes.
Enjoy this and the other title in Shifter's One True Mate series.

In an instant, the wolf shifted.
A naked, gorgeous man stood before me and held out his hand. “Come with me.”
I blinked. My lips parted, but no words came out. So, I closed them.
I didn’t slide my hand into his, but I shot past him, hoping I could outrun him, and the freaks would be more interested in the newcomer than in me.
The flying beasts stopped chasing altogether.
“They’re Furies.” The man caught up with me easily and ran beside me. “They don’t come to the territory of the City of Nine, unless Akem orders them.”
So, I’d crashed to the City of Nine.
This post-apocalyptic city was full of bloodthirsty savages and the jungle was guarded by winged beasts. And Akem, whoever he was, might be more terrifying.
The man seemed to read my mind. “All nine clans here originated from other planets and galaxies, but the jungle belongs to Akem.”
“Who’s he or she?”
“No one who has seen his true form still lives. Some say he’s an ancient elemental entity, who causes ships to fall and feeds on their energy. His deadly jungle is home to creatures of nightmares. Furies are only one of the monsters. No one can enter Akem’s jungle and come out in one piece, except for the Wickedest Witch.”
“Who is the Wickedest Witch?” I asked. “How wicked is she?”
The man glanced at me. “It’s a long story. I’ll tell you another time.”
I hadn’t expected to come to a fairy land, but I hadn’t completely believed the existence of the realm of nightmares either. Not until now.
Where else could I go?
The man slowed down when he saw I tried so hard to catch my breath.
“I’m Antonio Evans,” he said, not breaking a sweat. “I’m the general of the Wolf Clan. I’ll take you to the Keep.”
I stopped. “No.”
He also halted and stared at me, as if I were an idiot, and I stared back.
He had a sculpted face, a sturdy jaw, a slightly crooked yet strong nose that seemed to have been broken more than once, and sensual lips. For a brief moment, I wondered how it would feel to have those lips kiss mine.
I blinked back to reality.
A gust of wind blew, and he sniffed.
Something like shock flashed in his blue eyes, then they turned indigo in an instant, like the color of the ocean at midnight. Fire arose from their depths, emitting heat and caressing my body.
Liquid flame materialized from the ether, licking between my thighs.
An unseen force brushed open my folds like thumbs, letting the fire course through my channel.
It burned but caused no pain; only desire throbbed in me, demanding to be filled.
To be filled by—this man’s cock.
I’d never felt like this before.
What the fuck?
I licked my lips and swept a glance at the wolf.
He gazed at me as if he’d never seen anything quite like me. As if he’d just found an unforeseen fortune and couldn’t believe his luck.
I regarded him.
This specimen’s large body was all hard muscles, probably honed by decades of efficient fighting and killing. Everything about him emitted predatory and masculine beauty.
He stood erect in front of me, his large cock pointing to the sky.
I couldn’t help but stare.
Under my gaze, it jerked between his powerful legs.
It was hard and silkily smooth.
My mound grew slick with thick desire.
I urgently needed to mate with him. I needed his cock, all of it, inside me.
Lust, primal and raw, filled his eyes as well.
I panted. The fever I hadn’t known seized me. I had to mate. My sanity depended on it.
Why the hell not?
My life had been hanging on a thin thread ever since I’d taken Virgin across the universe. Based on my current luck, King Felim and King Jeroboam might have sent bounty hunters after me. If and when they came, I’d make sure all they got was damaged goods.
I’d let this wild wolf have me. I’d bear their enemy’s mark, and that was my revenge with a message; No one owned me.
My world had shattered when Thane died.
I’d go further and crash all the way.
Antonio stepped toward me, and I didn’t back off but gazed up at him in thrilling anticipation.
Lust coursed through me like the summer rain.
The tip of his cock reached me first, prodding against me.
He pulled me into his arms, his hands wrapping around me tightly, and his whole hard length strained against my belly.
I didn’t resist him. I needed this more than he. The lush wetness in me turned to liquid fire.
Antonio dipped his head, his sculpted, firm mouth slanting on mine.
The kiss was fuel to my fire, scorching me inch by inch.
A sweet, bitter moan slipped past my lips.
He growled back, low in his throat, a demanding sound. His wolf needed to mate, which aroused me even more.
My blood burned hot and my heart pounded. The anticipation was driving me mad.
If I could be in heat like that, I might have the leopard inside me, though she might be dormant. But I’d responded to the wolf mating call.
My gaze darted behind him. How could we mate in the ruin and wilderness, surrounded by unknown danger? From what I’d seen, monsters and beasts could be upon us at any time, and we’d be defenseless in the middle of mating.
Yet I still wanted to fuck him more than anything.
